Dyslexia Screenings
If you suspect dyslexia but do not require a full diagnostic report for your child, I offer dyslexia screening services.
Screenings do not provide a diagnosis (for which a full diagnostic assessment would be required).
This mini assessment can help to identify signs of dyslexia and determine where the child is in their literacy development.
Within two weeks, you will receive a short report summarising the assessment findings and recommendations for the next steps.
A dyslexia screening will usually last 1.5- 2 hours.
Full Dyslexia Diagnostic Assessment (age 8+)
A comprehensive dyslexia assessment which looks at a range of cognitive abilities: phonological awareness, working memory and processing speed.
A detailed assessment of verbal and visual underlying abilities.
Assessment of a range of literacy skills.
This assessment may result in a diagnosis of dyslexia where sufficient evidence is identified during the assessment process that is consistent with the Delphi Definition of Dyslexia (2025).
Approximately three to four weeks after the assessment, you will receive a full, detailed written report, including personalised recommendations for support and intervention.
Reports are prepared in accordance with the latest SASC guidelines. For more information, please visit http://www.sasc.org.uk/.
Assessments can be carried out at my home in Derbyshire, your child’s school, or your home (area depending).
This assessment will usually last around 3-4 hours, approximately (depending on the child), including breaks.
Specialist Teaching
I provide I:I specialist dyslexia lessons using a multi-sensory approach and a structured, cumulative literacy programme. These lessons are not one-size-fits-all but bespoke and personalised to suit each learner, ensuring that your child's unique needs are met. I teach all ages from 4 to 18 years.
My lessons aim to:
Improve reading fluency, efficiency and comprehension.
Develop phonological awareness and the ability to blend and segment sounds needed to read and spell effectively.
Enhance handwriting abilities, letter formation/orientation and fine motor control.
Build confidence and self-esteem.
Develop metacognitive strategies to become independent, confident learners.
Improve memory, sequencing, and organisational skills.
Improve focus, interest, and engagement in literacy learning.
Lessons continually revise content to aid memory and connect prior learning to new concepts.
I provide ongoing guidance for parents to support their child at home between sessions, ensuring that you are always involved in your child's learning journey. Progress will be carefully tracked, with feedback for parents built into the session each week.
In-person lessons: Lessons usually take place at the child’s school or home.
I also work with homeschooled children. Contact me for small group sessions.
Online lessons: I provide specialist dyslexia lessons online.
All lessons are 50 minutes with a follow-up email after each session.
